Forks – A fine food and wine event on Sunday (8/28/11). Not very crowded. The wine selection was not the greatest. Only one of the three tables for wine had a line. So I did not get to try that one. I did hear that the Wine Nazi was there. Food selections included Six Feet Under, Abattoir, Rathbuns, Sun Dial, Spice Market, The Melting Pot, Cake Hag, Canoe, Season's 52, Sweet Georgia's Juke Joint, and Bhojanic.

Food wise, my favorite was Sun Dial, with a Gouda crusted grits and pork belly. I think Rathbuns thai noodles and Six Feet Under's shrimp and cheese grits were amazing also.
It was great to see I will not get wet since it seems to rain every year for this event. The tents were nicely decorated and spacious. I enjoyed seeing old faces like Chef Rathburn (Rathburn's) and Chef Carvel Grant Gould (Canoe) but I was disappointed with their food choices (popcorn ice cream???) come on it's for a good cause (Grant Park Conservancy)! Of course their choices were delicious but a little more substance next year guys. The new guys on the block were impressive! Dogwood's Chef Shane Touhy and Going Coastal were among my favorites. Il Mulino's raviolis were amazing (yes! I had seconds). Runner ups were Peasant Bistro's Michael Patria and Milton's Chef Boyd A. Rose (best kept secret OTP). The wine selections were good and the sommeliers were very friendly (not to mention very patient with all of the wineignoramous types). Overall it was a delightful experience and I can not feel better about helping preserve Atlanta's Park. However don't expect to see any local favorites from Grant Park or authentic international cuisine. This one is for the big leaguers only!

Capt. Great people, great choices, great locale. The BAR has a great patio and live music for a great evening with friends.

Il Mulino - Atlanta

I had heard about the original location in New York from a client. From what people told me, this place lived up to the hype. Great meal and great service equals a great evening no matter the cost. I had the Ravioli Porcini and the Veal Arugula. The atmosphere was trendy with local artists works decorating the walls. The menu was extensive but did not offer any dinner items. Since it was dinner time, we tried to choose from the few hot menu items (we were told the menu was being developed). We ordered the fish special, unfortunately there was nothing special about it. I would suggest the owner/chef sticks to plan A, breakfast and lunch. I plan on coming back for breakfast and give it another try. By the way, none of the tables are painted!

BLT Steak = too much information and great food

BLT Steak at the W Downtown Atlanta is a little hidden from the road, but once you find it you will be pleased. Smaller than what I expected, but I liked that. Too much information means that the waiter right off from the beginning started all his explanations about the place and the menu and did not stop for about 5 minutes. My party of four only remembered bits and pieces of what he said. The menu was very easy to read, but on the back of the menu was an encyclopedia of STEAK. I thought it was pretty cool, but again too much information. You will love the cheese bread balls they bring out before dinner, they are very cool looking and taste great with the salt and butter they bring you. You can either order from the regular menu or the chalk board menu. I highly recommend the 14-oz. NY Strip, with the mac & cheese, and grilled asparagus. I also tried the Braised Short Ribs. Overall, I had a great experience, with great wine, great food, and great service. The only thing that I will try next time, will be some of their Artisanal American Cheeses from the cheese board they have in the dining room. Maybe you can try it first…..ENJOY

Reviewed by: HTLjose
